The Guadalupe River - America's 100 Best Trout Streams!
Rainbow trout fishing in New Braunfels, Texas? Listed in America's 100 Best Trout Streams, the Guadalupe River in Texas is the southernmost Trout fishery in the United States. Through the efforts of the Guadalupe River Chapter of Trout Unlimited (GRTU) and Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPWD, fishermen can fly fish for trout year-round. There is no fee for fishing if you are camping with us, or are a member of GRTU; otherwise, there is a fee of $8 per person per day.
Please note special regulations are in effect from the second bridge crossing on River Road upstream to the easternmost bridge crossing on FM Road 306. In this area, there is an 18-inch minimum size limit, a one trout daily bag, and the restriction that only trout caught on artificial lures may be harvested. Anglers may fish with all other legal means and methods, and may harvest all fish except trout.
This albino trout was caught and released within the 1 mile riverfront property.
Per the Dallas Morning News, Feb 13, 2011:
"Cold weather hasn't been good for most fishing, but it doesn't bother rainbow trout in the Guadalupe River.
On Feb. 1, Stephen Watts of San Antonio landed and released a 27 1/2 inch rainbow - a new catch-and-release state record. The previous record was 24.5 inches.
On Feb. 5, novice fly fisher Edgar Cardenas of New Braunfels also topped the old record. Fishing with a guide, Cardenas caught a rainbow that measured just over 26 inches and weighed 7 pounds, three ounces. After documenting the trout, they released it back into the Guadalupe."
